Adventure with purpose. The South Florida Overlanders Foundation reconnects people with the outdoors through responsible recreation, and turns that time outside into stewardship, education and service for Florida's wild places.

Who we are

Adventure brought us together. Stewardship gave us a purpose.

The Foundation grew out of a community of people who simply liked exploring. We traveled together through Florida's forests, wetlands, wildlife management areas and national preserves. Trips became friendships. Friendships became a community.

The more time we spent in these places, the more obvious one thing became: they cannot be taken for granted. Development, environmental pressure, irresponsible recreation and loss of public access all threaten the land we had come to love. So the community started asking a bigger question. What if our adventures could help protect the places that make those adventures possible?

That question became this Foundation. Overlanding is still how many of us got here, and it is one of the best on-ramps we know for introducing someone to the outdoors. It is not the reason we exist.

To inspire individuals and families to reconnect with the outdoors through responsible recreation and adventure, while fostering community and promoting stewardship, conservation, education and the preservation of natural spaces for future generations.

What we do

Four ways the mission shows up

Every program the Foundation runs sits under one of these. Most of them sit under more than one.

Explore

Organized outdoor adventures, camping trips, trail rides, family days and beginner friendly outings that make a first trip outside easy to say yes to.

Educate

Outdoor preparedness, recovery, navigation, camping skills, GMRS and amateur radio, conservation education, trail etiquette and safety, taught free.

Serve

Volunteer projects, community outreach, disaster response support and partnerships with the organizations already serving South Florida.

Protect

Trail cleanups, stewardship projects, Leave No Trace education, responsible public land use and partnerships with the agencies that manage these places.

Come out with us

Foundation events are free, family friendly and capped in size to protect the land. Announcements go out first on Instagram, with dates, meeting coordinates and current trail conditions.

Meet up. Ride. Fellowship.

A 21 mile run through Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest, about two to two and a half hours at an easy pace, then lunch and fellowship at the Oil Well Road picnic area. Raffles, giveaways and a special announcement about the South Florida Overlanders Foundation. All levels and families welcome.

This event is full. Every spot for September 19 has been claimed. Be on the lookout for the next one: follow the announcements, or tell us you want in and we will let you know first.

Big Cypress Meetup

A full family meetup at Pinecrest Group Campground: guided rides, Parks on the Air radio activations, cookout lunch, kids activities and overnight camping for twelve registered vehicles.

Public land cleanups

Half day cleanups on the trails and access points we use most, run with the agencies that manage them. Bring gloves and a truck bed. We supply the rest.

Skills workshops

Recovery and winch safety, navigation, trip planning, radio communications and camp craft. Beginner sessions assume you have never done any of it.

How we measure impact

The outdoors belongs to all of us.
So does the responsibility to protect it.

You do not need a built vehicle, expensive equipment or any experience at all. You need a free Saturday and people who have your back. That part is on us.
